Between Stations

eThis series was made along the Banja Luka – Doboj railway line, documenting fragments of everyday life in a space that is slowly emptying, wearing down, and being forgotten. The images follow the rhythm of the journey and the scenes that pass by through the window.

Inside the train, a conversation unfolds about Germany — about the U-Bahn as a symbol of an orderly system, functionality, and movement. That imaginary of the developed world stands in counterpoint to what is visible outside: railway lines that lead nowhere, stations growing empty, workers who have remained in the same jobs for decades. This tension between “there” and “here” runs through everything.

There are traces of a past that has never been fully healed. Layered onto this is the ongoing departure of people: young people leave for abroad, villages are left empty, and cities grow old.

Made by following situations, conversations, and atmospheres as they arose, the work builds a narrative about the space between leaving and staying, between memory and an uncertain future — a space that, like a train in motion, moves forward, but without a clear destination.
