Lace-making in Lepoglava dates back to the 14th century. In 2009, Lepoglava lace was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity — a recognition of a craft passed down through generations, learned from an early age through patience, precision, and years of dedicated practice. To watch a skilled lacemaker work is to witness something that borders on the impossible: spindles moving at a speed that seems like fiction, yet producing intricate patterns of quiet perfection.
This series of photographs, taken with the Xiaomi 13T series in collaboration with Leica, is an attempt to bring that world closer. The aim was to show that modern technology and centuries-old tradition are not opposites — that together, they can make heritage visible in a new way, and bring it within reach of generations who might otherwise never encounter it.
